Wingman—Swainson’s Hawk
Your best bet to find this hawk is west of the Mississippi River in the open country of the Great Plains. Typically perched on fence posts or utility poles, I was able to see this one in mid-flight. The contrast against the blue sky really set off the details in the subtle coloration and this composition was so perfect.
